The Beauty of Biking

Ready to enjoy the beauty of the great outdoors? There’s nothing quite like feeling the wind in your hair and the sunshine on your face – especially after the extra time indoors this winter. So why not pull out the bikes from their wintertime hiding place and take a ride? There are lots of reasons to make this healthy activity part of your springtime routine:

  1. Biking around your neighborhood or to work produces endorphins that provide a sense of well-being to get you through your day.
  2. Biking strengthens your thighs, hips – and tush! When biking up hills, arms and upper body  become stronger, too.
  3. People with back pains, muscle strains, knee or foot problems can find relief. Biking is gentle on joints and preserves cartilage. It’s an excellent way to stay active. Not great with balance? Try a three-wheeled bicycle for those who need a little extra support.
  4. Ride instead of drive. If you are close enough to work or school, take your bike instead of the car. You’ll save loads on gas and may even drop a few pounds.

The benefits of exercise extend beyond your wallet with better overall health. So get active this spring!

“Fall” in Love with Your Family

The air is crisp, the leaves are changing and nature is calling you to carve out some family time.  What better way to enjoy the season than to visit a fall festival with your kids?  You’ll find food, art fairs, live music and more!  If there’s not one in your town, look for festival fun nearby.

With the little ones, go apple picking or on a hayride.  You just can’t beat spending a pleasant afternoon in just-the-right-weather with the people you love.  It’s fun for everyone!

If your kids like art or music, especially look for a craft fair and/or music festival.  You’ll be entertained while also getting inspiration for your own art creations.

If you’re hungry for some tasty fall foods, get on the trail of tempting treats.  Festivals quite often feature caramel apples, pumpkin pies, corndogs, apple cider and much more.  Better get in line now!

Happy Thanksgiving!!!

Whatever fall adventure you choose, you’ll be making memories that will last long after the fun and food.

DIY Energy Saving Checklist

Listed below are some simple things you can check to better control your electrical usage throughout the year.

  • Install flow reducing shower heads
  • Insulate your water heater, unless it’s a newer insulated model
  • Insulate pipes in unheated spaces
  • Vacuum the vents and coils for the refrigerator/freezer twice a year because dust makes them work longer to cool.
  • Don’t block air circulation around the refrigerator
  • Replace gaskets that don’t seal tightly on the refrigerator/freezer
  • The higher the air temperatures are in a garage in the summer, the higher the operating costs of refrigerator/freezer will be.
  • Use lower wattage lamps in fixtures where you don’t need as much light, such as hallways and bedrooms.
  • Use florescent fixtures and lamps whenever possible.  They use a quarter of an incandescent lamp, and provide the same amount of light, and last at least 7 times as long.
